St Johnstone FDCOn 29th April 1989  St Johnstone played their last match at their long-term home of Muirton Park moving to the new  purpose-built McDiarmid Park on the outskirts of the city, the first purpose-built all-seater stadium built in the United Kingdom.

It may have been historic for St Johnstone but importantly for Ayr it was a good away win in which John Sludden helped himself to the only goal of the match.

However, due to its historical significance (not because of a good Ayr win), there was a a Post Office postmark created creating an industry in First Day Covers being issued across Perth in particular, but available elsewhere.

Three specific versions are shown here but many others can be found online.
